Fund I: Energy Access Ventures Fund

With expanding workforces, consumer markets and economic integration, Africa has nearly all the ingredients to spark rapid economic development. But poor infrastructure, across energy, transport, communications, education, healthcare and banking systems, stifles growth across key sectors.

We see Venture Capital as a clear disrupter to this problem. EAV I – our first €75 million fund - focuses on the energy infrastructure problem. Through this, we back early-stage companies providing low-carbon and affordable solutions, including for power, internet and cooling, to businesses and individuals across Africa. Our mission is to invest in companies that overcome this problem by scaling decentralized and digitized infrastructure across the continent.

Africa-Focused:

We invest in companies operating across Sub-Saharan Africa’s most exciting markets, even if their HQ’s and teams are elsewhere. We are Africa experts and can facilitate deployment across the continent

Early-Stage:

Our sweet spot is a company at the venture stage. Our initial ticket size is upwards of a couple of hundred thousand dollars and we can invest eight million dollars cumulatively in any one company

Smart Capital:

We fund companies that want more than just cash. We lead rounds, take board seats and use our knowledge, expertise and networks to overcome key growth challenges. We aim to be the first ones our entrepreneurs call!

Fund II: E3 Low Carbon Economy Fund

E3 Capital, formerly Energy Access Ventures, has partnered with Cygnum Capital to launch the successor $100M venture capital fund: E3 Low Carbon Economy Fund I. Africa is still at the mercy of climate change and needs resource-efficient and climate-resilient businesses to pave the way for service accessibility and economic development. At current, climate-smart businesses in Africa represent a nascent space for investment and require skilled, early-stage investors to support them in establishing commercial viability.

Our strategy is to leverage experience in energy investment, to deploy early stage capital to technologies enabled by energy that are digitized, decentralized, and decarbonized, and support access to essential services
